Senior Accountant
As the Senior Accountant at NextRNA Therapeutics, you will join an interdisciplinary team of highly creative and talented individuals whose mission is to translate the pioneering science of long-non-coding RNAs into transformative medicines for patients.
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Controller, the Senior Accountant will have exposure to a variety of accounting areas and be an integral piece of NextRNA’s small Accounting / Finance department. This role will have various responsibilities relating to NextRNA’s day-to-day accounting operations including the monthly close, accounts payable, and payroll. The Senior Accountant will also assist with the Company’s annual financial statement audit, compliance tasks, and other ad-hoc projects, such as system implementations, as needed.
What You’ll Do:
- Monthly close: prepare journal entries, post transactions, prepare balance sheet reconciliations, analyze and explain account fluctuations.
- Accounts Payable: with guidance from the Controller, take ownership of NextRNA’s accounts payable process. This includes maintaining vendor profiles, resolving discrepancies and vendor questions, managing purchase orders, entering invoices, and preparing check runs.
- Payroll: assist with preparation of bi-monthly Company payroll, including maintaining employee pay profiles and making sure accurate updates are made as needed.
- Compliance: prepare 1099s, analyze potential MA Use Tax liability, assist with other compliance requirements as needed.
- System Implementation: Assist with the implementation of Netsuite ERP. Help develop and optimize processes to take advantage of functionality available in the new system.
- Annual Audit: Compile information and documents to provide to external auditors for the annual financial statement audit. Dependent on past experience, the Senior Accountant can assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements, or this can be an area for growth.
- Work closely with team members across departments to ensure that transactions are fully understood and appropriately recorded in the general ledger.

Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related degree
- 3+ years of related experience
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP
- Skilled in Microsoft suite, particularly Excel
- Conscientious, organized, and detailed-oriented
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well independently and as a team member in a time sensitive environment with a positive attitude
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data
- CPA or CPA-in-progress a plus, but not required
- Experience with Netsuite preferred, but not required
- Biotech experience a plus, but not required
This position will be on-site 5 days per week at our Boston, MA location.
